Manufacturing - SMD assembly

The SMD assembly of EBS-SYSTART GmbH is continuously optimized through a continuous exchange of knowledge with suppliers and consultants. We will be happy to support you in the preparation of your production documents and in the design of the panels. This allows your prototypes to be efficiently assembled and valuable experience to be gained for series transfer. You will find more information about the three steps of SMD assembly below.

First step: stencil printing

We only use proven solder pastes for printing the printed circuit boards. Depending on the batch sizes and requirements, we use the following stencil printers:

  • EKRA E4 and E5 for series products or for prototypes with finepitch
    • Perfect print image with fully automatic print image control
    • For cost-optimized series production of SMD assemblies
  • PAGGEN TDS-360 for prototypes
    • Use of inexpensive and sometimes free stencils
    • The printing process is carried out manually with hand squeegees and then visually controlled

Second step: Pick and place

For the actual component assembly (pick and place), we have different assembly methods at our disposal, depending on the type of component and the number of components. While machine production is more cost-effective for high quantities, small quantities are assembled semi-automatically or manually in order to save programming and set-up costs of the placement machine.

We use the following assembly methods:

  • Fully automatic assembly with two SMD lines
    • One-time creation of the assembly program
    • Efficient and cost-effective assembly of SMD components
  • Manual loading with tweezers
    • No set-up and one-off costs
    • Optimum cost-effectiveness for prototypes and one-off production

Step Three: Reflow Soldering

After component assembly, the solder paste is evenly melted in reflow machines. In order to achieve the most precise and repeatable temperature profiles possible, we use the latest vapor phase technology from ASSCON Systemtechnik Elektronik GmbH. With our two vapor phases, we solder your assemblies in an oxidation-free and thermally gentle manner. If required, the VP1000-66 vapor phase can store the soldering profile for documentation purposes for each soldering process.
